Opinions on the S&W 40-06
I found a good deal on the 40-06 and was wondering what the opinions were on this weapon. I have heard bad things about the 40-46s and was wondering if it was worth it. Any pro's or cons would be welcome.

What bad things have you heard about the 4006? I've never shot one but I've handled many and they feel good in my hands and had the opertunity arrisen I would have bought one as they seem very well made. A lot of the used ones came from LEA's.

the one I'm looking at the guy is asking 315 for a 40-06 with one magazine. It's a stainless LE turn in .40 caliber with night sights. I've pretty much decided I'm going to buy it I'm just trying to hear from people that have them the pros and cons of that platform.

magazines are expensive, but the gun itself is a great gun IMO.

It's a solid, dependable pistol and that's a good price. We were selling the same law enforcement turn ins at the shop for $479 here in Cali. Nobody ever complained or brought one back.

Very good dependable gun. My only complaint is the straight backstrap grips that are standard of 95% of them. You can put the arched backstrap 5906 grips on if you choose. My paws prefer the arched grips.

I've seen them here in S. Oregon at $400+ in gunshops. Even if I bought one through private FFL with + $ handling there is no way I could beat the $315, IMO you got a great price.

Very solid guns - they were designed from the ground up for the .40 S&W cartridge. They were the darlings of LEOs for many, many years. Other than mags being a bit pricey, no downside at all. I've owned a couple in the past and they're built like tanks...

I've got a 4006 w/night sights that I bought new and have put less than 100 rounds through it. Also have about a dozen factory 11 rd mags for it as well. The grip is just too wide for me and I never could get comfortable holding it. It's been sitting in the safe for years, while I wait for the perfect trade to come along.
