Hello All,
I am currently looking to purchase my first pistol. I would like something that I could target shoot with mostly. Eventually I would like to get competitive with it. So I would like a pistol that I could eventually accessorize with either a laser grip sight or red dot scope. My question is what would be a good caliber and brand pistol that is fairly inexspensive to purchase and shoot.

How many competitions allow lasers or scopes? 1911s are a good choice either way. I paid about $700 for my Kimber, this is how it shoots at 50 yards:



For quite a bit more, you can pick up a Les Baer that is guaranteed to shoot 2.5" at 50 yards.

What's your idea of "fairly inexpensive"?

Good competition pistols generally aren't what a lot of people would classify as "fairly inexpensive".
