I know you want to stay away from the 1911, but Wilson has a new "lightweight carry".

Many good ones out there. But all in all I love my S&W 457 45ACP

Check out the new Ruger 1911. I haven't fired it, but did handle it at the local shop.....nice feel and good price.

There is a You tube review on this forum for a better look. I believe it is in the range report section.

Over $600: 1911s, followed by Sig P220 compact

Under $600: XD/Glock/SW poly compacts, Ruger and Bersa also make some quality budget 45's

ok so i found that the .45 world is pretty much ruled by the 1911 so looking at this i found the kimber ultra cdp 2, but not a fan of the grips so i found a S&W 4516 and the 457, i willing to spend the money just wondering which way to go

Wrench,

I have carried the 4516 for over 25 years and let me tell you it is my favorite carry gun. I also carried it for at least 8 years as my duty carry gun so I trust my life to the gun. It does have some down side to it as it is a very heavy weapon and a lot of people donít want to carry a heavy gun but I like knowing that if I run out of ammo I can beat the someb*tch to death with it.

Hereís my baby

With something as easy to swap as grips, I certainly wouldn't let that become a deal-breaker.

I'd choose the 1911. But those S&W's are solid guns.

I have a Glock 30 in my rotation for ccw. Kimber and HK are most accurate but for concealability, and round count, nothing comes close. and... a guy named Massad Ayoob says it's his favorite. Not sure if he's qualified for an opinion though :-)
