Ball and dummy (live ammo mixed in with snapcaps) is a great drill.

.22 is a great idea

Stepping away and letting someone else monitor/teach her is a great idea. You should monitor the teacher though. One - to get pointers yourself and two- to insure you agree with the information being taught.

I had a sub compact Glock .40 cal. It was tiny! Given I'm 6' and weigh 270lbs, it was ungodly to shoot. The recoil was insane, it was uncomfortable and didn't feel right. Unfortunately it was an impulsive buy that was yes a good deal but not thought out to well. I sold the Glock and found a Ruger p95 9mm that I truly love. It's. More comfortable, barely any recoil and is a tad bigger. Next time research and try your local gun ranges the ones here rent there weapons.

As far as a .22 goes I bought an S&W 22a for around 215.00 and I love it.
