This is just my opinion but I would stick to the following common and most available calibers .380, 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. Anything outside of these calibers puts you at a disadvantage.

I ended up getting a Glock 23 in .40. Any recommendations on iwb and owb holsters?

Check out Tommy Theis, bout to order one, have heard great things from very reputable persons. I'm going with the horsehide with the kydex clips.

go to http://aliengearholsters.com/iwb-holsters.html/
they have INEXPENSIVE holsters and they work.
I've bought many different brands, they work (in varying degrees of comfort) but this one IMHO is the best.
BTW.... I carry a full sized double stack 1911 45 auto (kimber polymer target).
It weighs 2 oz LESS with 14 + 1 rounds in it then does my Series 70 Mark IV Colt with an 8 round wilson magazine loaded in it + 1.
