Well, yes, I have more than one firearm in the same caliber- or did before that horrible boating accident. Because they made more than one model in that caliber.
Now, I have a friend with a good sized place in the county in Minnesota. He has about 10 Marlin 336 rifles in 30-30. Commonality of ammo and spare parts, and he figures would be of the the least attractive guns to the gun banners.

That's a great reason right there to own multiples of the same/similar gun. Who knows if/when bans might happen. Having your own stock of spare parts would be nearly invaluable.

I am to the point where I am buying pistols and rifles of the same caliber. I just bought a GP 100 and a 1894C because I like the idea of buying one ammo also it is fun to have the set. Any reason the buy more firearms I guess. The wife loves that.

Multiples of 9mm and 45acp in handguns, and will probably always have extras of each.
I strongly prefer common calibers...12ga, 22lr, 5.56, 308, 38/357, etc.
My only oddball is a P226 in 357sig. Due to its slight obscurity, it'll likely be replaced...maybe by a P220.
