We have gone around this barn several times. Quality steel springs do not lose elasticity from being normally compressed. You can keep them loaded indefinitely. They CAN lose some by being cycled- loaded/unloaded/loaded/unloaded. My 25 yr old Ford pickup has had weight on the suspension springs since the day it was made- but it is not sitting on the ground- springs still work. As long as a magazine is functioning, it should only need normal cleaning (they do get crud blown down in there when shooting) and lube.
