That is the same place of barrel rupture in the one report of a ruptured barrel that I found, directly in front of the chamber.

I say lets look into this further and see if it seems to be a trend.

I wouldn't be too concerned..this is a rental gun at a range I go to. Probably an ungodly number of rounds through it. I own the same model and have never had a problem with it. I'm sure S&W will stand behind their product!

I have the same pistol, no problems. Can you post a pic of the barrel failure? And as Trip asked, what's the round count?

I'm getting mine out to inspect the bbl now.

Chandler- they said they've had the weapon for over a year...they didn't have a number...or didn't want to tell as for the barrel pic...I only took the one pic of the "assembled" weapon. It was a very noticeable crack in front of the chamber, also visible from inside the barrel.

Still...that's bizarre. I've never seen such a thing.

Yeah, I'm only mildly concerned. I'd be willing to bet money that almost every make and model on the market has had a catastrophic failure of some sort.

I'd be willing to bet, since this a rental gun at a range, this weapon took a nose down dive. Probably dropped while open chamber putting a small bur in the barrel and a crack on the frame. Then the next rounds through would have put undo stress on the barrel and the supporting frame. Just a guess though. Seem odd the amount of frame taken by a cracked barrel. Like I said IMHO.
