Kimber RECOMMENDED ammo. Ammo types/brands that they have tested and are thought to increase the odds of it working.

http://www.kimberamerica.com/solo

USE ONLY RECOMMENDED AMMUNITION
Solo is designed to function optimally using premium hollow-point self-defense factory ammunition with bullet weights of 124 or 147 grains.

EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

• Federal® Hydra-Shok® JHP
• Remington® Golden Saber™ HPJ
• Hornady TAP® JHP
While other ammunition may perform well, lighter bullets and inconsistent pressures that can be found in lower-quality ammunition may lead to decreased slide cycle time and compromise function.

Found it. Ok, to be fair, not as bad as I'd heard. But still a bit of a PITA.
Too fussy for my tastes, YMMV.

Now that you settled on the Springfield... I recommend you look at the XDm as well. Better barrel, better trigger, not much more money.

How much are they now? I'm seeing the 1st gen XD's for less than $400 nowadays. I'd like to have an XDm, but are they that much better?

I chose the OD/Black for something a little different. Does double duty as my nightstand gun, hence the light.

Is that a standard XD, or an XDm? I was at a gun show this weekend, and they were going out the door for $398. New.

I'm not sure if they included the XD Gear package, but I've never used the holster/mag pouch that came with mine anyway.

Unless you've already made your mind up to buy it, I'd shop around a little more.

JMHO.

Just to clarify, $581 including tax (OTD) for a XD9SC NIB?
If true, you should look around. They start well south of $500. Though, I suppose Night sights and other goodies could drive that up some. Check used too, Used XD*SC are not uncommon.
Edit:
All the new ones come with XD gear. Aside from the mags, it's nothing to get excited about.
