Kimber quality

As I have been making my way around the forum...I noticed a few comments about poor quality coming from Kimber. I own two Kimbers and both have operated flawlessly for me.

I am considering getting a commander length .45 and would like to hear from the community...pros and cons and what manufacturer makes the best "value" in a 4" .45 auto, preferably not stainless steel?

A value buy would be a quality firearm, accurate and reliable, with a good warranty, with night sights for a median price or less. The gun would be a range gun, not SD....prior to reading the comments, Kimber would be a logical choice, but there has been some sharp criticisms of Kimber so I am rethinking...also, another brand might be in order anyways just to try something new.

Kimber sells a but-load of guns. A lot of people like them. I don't care much for them but out of the guys I shoot with I"m the only one that has had issues wit them. Two different pistols over time. CS was pretty good about getting them in for repair/inspection but they had the same problem (FTF-FTE) coming back.

So no, I'll not have another one. I think they are way overpriced considering the quality but that's just an opinion.. But they have many-MANY happy customers, so they must do something right. For me, I"ll get another Springfield, Para Ord, Colt.:)

kimbers are extremely over priced. your paying beyound top dollar for a gun that should be selling alongside the RIA price point for what your getting.

piss poor warranty doesnt help.

my recomendation is colt close second springfield armory.

I have a Kimber and have no buyers's remorse. Your mileage may vary as they say.

Love my Kimber, sounds like you're happy with yours as well. No harm no foul.. ;)

With that said, stay open minded to other manufactures. Like said Colt and Springfield both make great products. Had herd all good stuff about the Ruger SR1911 until recently I read in a thread here that some are 'loose' and to check them over. Never owned one so take that with a grain of salt..

I may have a place in my barn for a Colt, but not a Kimber.

Any company that places a 1 year limited warranty on a handgun has a reason. There are others that provide lifetime limited warranty, so why would I want to pay for a firearm with only 1 year?

Suggested "Commander" style, well, look at what RIA offers. If you could overlook the fact that Springfield Armory is in Illinois, you may want to look there, too.

Based on my experiences with 1911 Commander sized firearms I would go with a Sig. Many of them come standard with night sights, there is a pile of non-stainless models for you, and mine was flawless right out of the box. Naturally, since it was flawless I can't comment on Sig warranty or customer service. I wish I could fay the same for Kimber.

Can't comment factually on a Kimber because I don't own one. However, a good shooting buddy has one that doesn't compare well to my STI pistols. They pore a ton of money into advertising and from my perspective without owning one they seem focused on building pretty guns at a premium price point. It should bother any buyer at that price level that the gun only comes with a one year warranty. What does it say about belief in their own product when they can't do better than that. I'll stick with STI and their lifetime guarantee even if you aren't the original owner.

IMO, they build a very nice looking pistol. some people have very good luck with them, and some not so much. the two biggest detractors in why i wouldn't buy one, (at least never a new one) is the price and the one year warranty. there are too many others with much better warranties and at a better price than Kimber.
