I've decided to get a smaller, more concealable pistol and I've looking at the Kel-Tec P11 and PF9. I'm reading some bad reviews and I was wondering if you guys could give me some input on these little guns. If it's as bad as people say, I think I might be better off spending more for something better. I really would like the width to be an inch or less though.

I've heard they have a long trigger pull. I just bought a P11 yesterday so I guess I'll find out when I get it to the range.

I had a P11 and it was totally reliable. I put many thousands of rounds through it with only 1 failure due to a bad primer. Sadly I traded it off for a PF9 which was a mistake. The PF9 was not reliable even after 500 rounds so I dumped it and got another P11. I have several hundred rounds through this one and no failures. The trigger sucks but it is controllable with some practice. You have to treat it like a double action and get a little more finger on the trigger. It weighs 22-23 oz loaded depending on the weight of the ammo. I have the hooked butt plate on my mag and it makes a big difference. If you want a thinner single stack, go with the Kahr.

Not a lick of problems with my P11. Several hundred rounds through it. It is good for what it was made for, carrying. Not that good for plinking or range shooting, it gets the web of my hand sore after several magazines. Accurate enough for cc.

Get what you can afford, but I would look at the Kahr.

My P-11 is reliable and accurate. Kel-Tec has a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser. They can be improved a bit with a fluff and buff as explained on the Kel-Tec owners forum, but mine was fine right out of the box. It doesn't like Winchester white box bulk ammo, but shoots everything else, including hollow points.

I have a PF9, exactly as is in the picture in the original post. It's been totally reliable through a few hundred rounds and is quite manageable with up to standard pressure 124gr. I've had zero problems with JHPs, and have even fired some NATO ball (manageable) and 115gr +P (too snappy IMO) through it. Very thin, very concealable. But this is a compromise gun that is exclusively for carry. I believe there were some quality issues with these early on, but the newer productions seem to be extremely reliable.

It's a great $280 carry gun. 7(+1) is pretty impressive capacity given its size. Affordable mags and accessories are available direct through Kel-Tec, and their customer service gets outstanding reviews.

The Kahr PM9 and Walther PPS are upgrades if you don't mind doubling the price. The PPS is a slightly bigger frame but quite slim. Ruger's new LC9 might also warrant a look, being just a few bucks more than the Kel-Tec.

I also own a PF9. Recoil is snappy because of the light frame. The trigger pull is much longer than some pistols. That being said, I've got about 150/200 rounds down range and not a single issue. It is very thin (slightly more than the PM9 by Kahr, I believe) It can handle heavier grain and +p rounds for social events, and is worth more (IMO) than the very inexpensive price tag.

Someone posted, "Get what you can afford" , to a point...I have had a PF9 and it shot where I aimed, never misfired, and would have been fine in one of those kind of emergencied. KelTecs and HiPoints are cheap pistols, cheap made and fill the bill for citizens that can't afford high dollar pistols....

Plastic and polymer are fine in their places but I being raised with and a lifetime with good American & German steel firearms do not feel that polymer is any place for a pistol that you may carry and hand down to a son or daughter....What's it going to look like in 25-50 years ? Will it be "loose as a goose & still shoot safely ?

Buy what you have to buy according to your own ability....
