Default Colt 1911

Of course we all know the XD's are the cream of the crop, I have extensive experience with them but is the XDs too small to be any fun for in .45? I carry a J-frame so I'm not really all that concerned about carrying. This would be for fun and for quick access around the home.

Any input or experience with these two firearms?
I have a series 70 Colt 1911 and just had to replace the slide release after 50M+ shots. I carry it where allowed. I suggest you look for a series 70 or 80 instead of all this new stuff flooding the market. I have looked at the new 45s and they don't single stack up for me.

I was shooting against a guy at a IDPA competition this last Saturday. He was using the Ruger. He wasnt very acurate. But I think it was him. I never saw any malfunctions. It seemed to be running good. In my opinion it is tough to beat any 1911.

I shoot a Citidel. It is any entry level 1911. But I can keep right up with the other guys. You have to be really good to out shoot your gun.

nothing wrong with the Colts and i have much respect for them, but to disregard some of the newer 1911's coming on the market is to limit yourself. they are flooding the market because people want them. supply and demand. there is a demand and the makers are supplying. i have a new AC Commander and the new Remington R1 Enhanced, and both shoot very well and both are made very well. you need to broaden your horizons and check out some of the newer 1911's coming on the market, you might be suprised at what you find!

IMO, If I cannot get through with the 8 round, .45ACP 1911 (with 2 mags backing up), then, maybe, I am in the wrong place with the wrong firearm at the wrong time.

You do carry an extra mag or two, don't you?

I would think that the percentage of those pulling their weapon in self defense and needing 8 rounds or more would be very very low.

Kycol, kind of follows what Dan is saying. i too think that what's in the pistol plus an extra mag, that 12-15 rounds of 45 should be adequate for most anything that should arise.

Well as for me i choose capacity. It really doesnt matter honestly if its 8 or 80 shot placement is the key. Keep your head in the fight and stay calm and you can put rounds on target in center mass almost always

$.02
I carry extra mags only because that is the critical part that has the most probability to fail.

I love Rugers, but after spending some time on my FIL's SR1911..........its just another 1911 but the trigger seems heavy before the break. Nice clean break though. Close your eyes and you wouldnt know it from any other stock 1911, other than the trigger seems heavy but that could just be me. Its a great gun but nothing special and I dont think its worth being on a waiting list for over other 1911 choices.JMO
