I thinking about getting a hi-point. Tell me what you think what will be a good one to choose from and thanks

First off, there WILL be haters. But if you need a handgun and your budget has you below $200, the Hi Point is your best bet. Don't get a Lorcin or Jimenez, because even though they look "cooler", they fail and operators die.
Ok. If you're going to get one, get a 9mm or .40, practice, and save up for your next one. I like Hi Points for what they are, and EVERY law-abiding American who wants to be armed should be able to do so regardless of cash on hand.

That said, you can get a S&W SWE 40 (or SDE... I get my nomenclature mixed up) for right around $300. Same with a Poly Witness.

Do not get a .45. I had one and it jammed every other shot. I tried switching ammo. I bought a new magizne. Still had the same problem. I would get a CZ-52 or tokarev there cheaper to shoot and there proven.

I've shot the hi-point 40 s&w and 9mm. Before I bought mine and really liked them. I later found out the 45 is made at a different place the rest.

Good call on the CZ 52. Or did you say 82? Lol! Either way, both are good to great, and either can be had around $200. Still, if ~$170 is what you have, a Hi Point will work. Smaller calibers are better, but don't get the .380 because its weak and expensive. I would recommend the 9mm for numerous reasons.

I have a Hi Point 40 and it is a decent pistol. The major problem with these pistols is the magazines. They are crappy at best. I threw my first one in the trash and ordered another one from Midway and it is a good one. I bought mine on a whim just to see what all the arguing was about. I keep it loaded in my shop. The last 500 rounds have been error free. It allows a person who happens to be low on money to own a pistol for protection. Their customer service is good.

I have the Hi-Point 9mm and haven't had any issues. To me its a good gun that goes bang. Of course we all would love to have bigger and better but at least this is a start.

I just commented on the other active hipoint thread but ill repeat....I had a hipoint .40, it was my first pistol and bought it for plinking, it was an impulse buy really. I wanted a pistol but at the time couldn't afford much else, making 11 bucks an hour at a crappy construction job.

I agree the mags are pretty silly looking but my mags worked good, I had two. The only issue I had with it was it wouldn't chamber hollow points, with ball ammo it was good.

I ended up trading it for my 870 express magnum about a year ago.

Have to agree with the mags looking silly! I have 2 extended grip ones and 2 plain. The extended ones help a lot with grip.
