Which handguns were designed for .40?
I've currently got a 9mm (XDm) and a .357 mag (Ruger Blackhawk)...definitely want a 1911 in .45 at some point...and I'm also interested in a .40S&W at some point as well. But, I lean towards a gun designed specifically for the .40, not one designed as a 9 and chambered up. I've found a few, but does anyone know which definitely fall into that category? Or an easy way to look that up?

I don't know if this even applies to your question, but I remember reading a discussion about "head support" in .40S&W pistols. Only reason I think it might apply is they stated that a 9mm pistol which was chambered up for .40S&W does not have good head support. Brands mentioned that did have it were Bersa, Springfield XD, CZ & Sig Sauer.

Thanks guys. The HK is most likely more than I want to spend and I was hoping for something a little better than a Hi Point.

Everything I'm seeing on the EMP makes me think it was designed for 9mm and stepped up for .40. 9mm was announced in 2006 and most reviews are for it w/also available in .40. Earliest reviews I'm finding for .40 is 2010...am I missing something?
The Stoeger looks like a nice option, though, that's a fine-looking piece. I'll have to read more on it. Thanks for the input.

The Bersa .40 is a good pistol. They offer it in a UC (10+1) & a HC (13+1). Price range $400-$450 & maybe an ocassional good deal of $350ish. Mine is the Firestorm Mini .40 & has been flawless from day one.

Not a big fan of that style handgun. The Bersa Thunder Pro is more my style...but it appears to have been originally designed for the 9. Thanks for the recommendation, though.

Actually, it was only by accident I left that one out...I've been pondering quite a bit on a 10mm lately. Definitely interested in getting my hands on one, I've never shot one before. I like the concept and, if it lives up to my expectations, I could see going for a 10mm before a .40.
