Default Which gun would you take

I'm going back packing in Colorado next month and wonder what would be the best round to defend against a bear attack between a .357 sig or a .45 auto. Thanks in advance for the responses

I'd certainly stoke my 45 with some +P+ rounds from someone like Underwood
I don't own a sig 357 but they are hotter then the 45 according to Underwood

Big thing you need on bears is penetration.

Would not take either one for bear. Would get this:

Works better, less likely to get you put in jail for molesting the wildlife. Seriously. "Stopping power" starts at 12 g slugs.

Planning to fly to Colorado? Locate a place you can purchase AFTER you get off the plane. Cannot take on plane, either in checked or carryon baggage.

Will be driving with church group I think the spray would be a good option as well but just in case it doesn't work the fire arm is the back up

+1 on the bear spray. I'd still take a gun as a back up tho. Which gun has a higher capacity? If attacked by a bear, I'd empty the spray at him and the try to get away. If he kept coming, dump a mag in 'em. If he's still going, start praying.

.357 sig holds 3 more rounds which is one of the reasons I was leaning towards that one but didn't know what was better ballistically

Get some good maximum loads for the .357 sig. Check and see if buffalo bore makes any hard cast bullets for that caliber. Like mentioned above, you need max penetration.

Definitely get the bear spray though.........and practice with the spray so you'll get the general idea of how far it sprays.

So the .357 sig will penetrate more than the 45
