Looks like you are getting some very good advice. You may want to see what is standard issue at the department you are wanting to go to. Also you are wanting to use cheaper ammo for practice may suggest a sig p250 could be a good pick because you could transform 1 pistol into different calipers 9mm 40cal. And 22 lr as well as 3 different size frames. And if you
Ike the 1911 rock island makes an excellent 1911 In 9mm and 45 auto.

Seems the top 3 makes of guns carried by Police in the past 5 ears are:

Sig Sauer
Glock
S&W M&P

IMHO the S&W M&P is growing in popularity the other two are losing market share.

I'd suggest you bet / borrow or steal (joke) each brand and shoot them.

They shoot very differently.

I went shopping for a 9mm one day. Ended up with my favorite low weigh, easy to clean... With double stack fire power and several caliber options. Glock 32, purchased 9mm (and mags) & .40 cal barrels. For the 1911 folks, look at your target and look at mine, mine has less paper to recycle First 9? Buy something fun with other caliber options, then target your future purchases based on your experience and fancies.
