What size was your XD. Mine is the XD 45sm. I have shot 9mm's with more recoil than my XD. My wife shoots it with one hand and loves it.
When you say floating barrel are you talking about when the barrel angles up at the muzzle when the slide is back? (XD's do that also)
The XD dose have a higher bore access tho. This dose result in more muzzle flip. You would thank a glock with a lower bore access would push more into your hand than a XD would. I'm not trying to say you don't know what you are doing or anything. But were you holding the gun correctly at the time?
