In a tech standpoint trimming down the tables to make the whole forum is no ta bad idea. Being that these boards are really stable telling me the one that admins the boards writes the tables very well it's only plus to deleting sub forums would be overall size of the forum as a whole. Truth be told then it would come down to is it or is it not effecting the cost to the host? I'd say not. The traffic in many of the subs is no t real high and I don't see it effecting bandwidth. Being people are going to post about their stuff where ever they see a place to put it. The benefit of having a sub forum for a given fan of a certain thing sometimes creates a venue for specifics that might be left unsaid in a more genera forum. It also allows for more refined searching for info. If the subs are being used that is.
For me it really doesn't matter. I don't admin or even mod anything here so I don't have to worry about maintenance, monitoring and the like. I do like being able to avoid certain forums that I wouldn't use.
In all honesty he only people I can see a lot of extra sub forums having any real impact on are the ones that work on the boards (Site ADMIN, Mods, etc). Because they have to make sure everything is going fine. The rest of us...It really doesn't matter. And it makes some happy to have a section all their own.
To me I see no real reason for a Glock forum. I mean, how many times can you say sure they look funny but they do work really well. But it makes Glock fans happy.Just like a FN, M&P, [insert cool gun name here]. The boards are stable and I can find what I'm looking for. So I"m happy
