Default Firearm polishing

Am looking to get into firearm polishing. Been thinking about polishing the feed ramps on my semi automatics, also even polishing the slide on my G20. Been watching several You Tube videos on it, but wanted to hear other opinions.

What are some of your tricks or tips on polishing.

Do any of your firearms have issues feeding ammo? If not DO NOT POLISH THE FEED RAMPS. YOu could very well cause a problem that you are not having now. If you polish the slide what do you plan on doing to protect the metal? Stainless can be left bare, but regular steel should not be left as bare metal.

Re: Feed ramp- the only time I will allow a dremel in the same room with my guns is for that. I use a felt polishing bob, and a tiny bit of white jeweler's rouge.

It's already been said, but no sense polishing a feed ramp on a gun if there are no feed issues. If you like shiny, an old tshirt with some Flitz polish using your finger will give your ramp a nice shine.

Also, polishing carbon steel is not typically a good idea. You are exposing bare carbon steel to the elements. Bare carbon steel RUSTS without any kind of protective coating. Your Glock has a CARBON STEEL slide. Unless you're going to apply another kind of finish on the slide after you polish off the factory finish, I would HIGHLY discourage this. Stainless steel, aluminum, gold, silver, platinum are all great to polish on. Carbon steel....not so much. But it's your gun, do what you want with it.
