How 'bout a .46?; 240 gr Bullet @ approx 1200 ft/sec. It would be better than a .45 w/230 gr Bullet at 860 to 950 ft/sec., and less cumbersome than the .50.
The old question of "Why do you carry a .45?" And answered by: "Because they don't make a .46."

A round with the power of a 454 casul but in a cartridge truly designed for a semi auto gun.

.338 Lapua has the record for longest sniper kill shot. Just build a Thompson Center and work on speed loading it.

I know this is an old thread, and this may sound far fetched but I've actually seen the c4 thing tried. A good friend of mine , a marine , was using the stuff during training. This was back in 1991. Somehow he found himself with some while on leave. He had completely stuffed a hollow point 12 gauge slug with the stuff. We shot it into a large tree and..... it didn't do a damn thing. I believe he only had one, and maybe the result would have been more dramatic if shot into steel or something completely solid but in that instance absolutely nothing happened accept a 12 gauge dia hole in a tree. If it could have caused the barrel to blow up in our faces(which I'm sure the possibilities were there) I guess once again god smiled down on idiots. That's been over 20yrs ago and I still wouldn't want to be the guy who saws up that tree. Talk about kick back!

The main differences would be that it would have no rim, use jacketed bullets, and be loaded hotter then a 45 LC. I would call it a 45 AM (Automatic Magnum)

You mean something like this?

I would love to have a .45acp neck down to a .42 cal.... Something that does 1100-1300 fps with a 190 gr. Bullet.
platform would be a glock or double stack 1911. Or a .50 neck down to a .45 that would be my back wood gun

In reality, there isn't much you can dream up that hasn't already been tried at least half a dozen times.
