How about a resurrection of the .50 cal Gyrojet round? To combat the suckish close up velocity, it could use a 2 stage ignition. A standard boom to get it out of the barrel, and the rockets to keep the bullet going.

Now I like that idea!
I like experimental, discontinued, weird, and failed firearms, and the gyrojet is prolly what got me into it. The gyrojet is on my list of firearms to own.

I know, I would love to shoot it, but I would feel kind of bad about wasting the ammo. Owning a Gyrojet is on my bucket list as well.
