That is truly a matter of opinion. And I'm sticking to MY opinion.

Heck, it would just be nice to have a semi-sidearm to match some

rifle rounds. Like a DE chambered in 7.62x39.

Maybe something with a mini-generator, like a pistol

which could capture 30.06 recoil to recharge small batteries...

How about an effective round that is CHEAP to shoot? No more than $10 for a box of 50. How about a caseless round?

Nice thought but all the experimental caseless that I heard about was an utter flop in small arm calibers. Smallest thing that the army got to work well was 144 mm.

I thought there was some german gun back in the 90's they were working on? I think it was in Guns N Ammo Magazine. The G-10, or something like that......

yeah they tried with a case shaped charge of molded explosives stuck to the back of the bullet. I think it was fired by electric charge. Never heard that the got it to work right outside the lab. Too much pressure.... Not enough pressure.... (pop, pop, POP, KABOOOOM) next tester please....

It only took us a hundred years or so to get the cased cartridge to be as reliable as it is. Give the lab weenies some more time and they WILL get it to work....

I know that there was some testing being done with flammable gas propellants for small arms. Low cyclic rates were the problem there. Barrel got hot and didn't cool enough. it would cook off as the action closed without pulling the trigger....

The gun he was thinkin of was the Heckler and Koch G11. Neat design, but sadly never fielded. Now, the Daisy .22VL had some moderate sales back in it's day. It was a caseless .22, and now its gaining a collector's value.

Sorry, all the 22LR rounds are out of circulation, at the moment...
