Glock 34. That's what I use in IDPA.

As for IPSC, STI makes a nice 1911 race gun. Other choices are the EAA Witness race gun and CZ's race gun.

CZ's have been one of the top competition firearms. They are heavy and have a low barrel axis which makes them dead on accurate. Also There is no other grip like a CZ, find a shop or someone that will let you fondle one a little bit and you will wonder why you didn;t get one sooner.

If it makes you feel better most Glocks in the US are made in Smyrna, Georgia.

Otherwise Smith and Wesson's M&P.

Springfield is an American company but the XDs are made in Croatia.

Gets confusing anymore when you want to buy American.

I'm wondering what competiton the OP is getting into.

A Glock is not too effective in ATA (Trap shooting)

No kidding! I tried to shoot a skeet with my Ruger P95. The first 15 shots didn't touch a skeet. On the second magazine I got wise. I waited until the skeet was almost stopped just floating and gave it a quick burst of shots. If I hadn't got smart I still would be out there burning ammo.
