The same gentlman (Bobbits) that helped design the glock and steyr m9 also assisted in designing the Caracal. Notice the low bore axis in the caracal is very similiar to the Steyr M9.

One good thing I've read about it is it is NATO d-14 stamped and also passed a test from the German army or something that only a few other pistols have done. That alone in my opinion is worth taking some shots and seeing how it handles.

There was some review a while back thatcovered the guy that designed both the steyr M and the caracal . He is Wilhel Bubits and the caracal is made in germany by Merkel . Why it resembles the steyr so much and also seems to have good reviews with a lighter trigger .

Unlike some here I would own one and hope to. With the oil and gas we burn now from the arabs and the money we all spend on products from other counrties it seem some what foolish to say you would not own one because of place of origin.

I concur. I wish we could make our decisions based on facts and not ignorance. Here is a review of the caracal c compared to another popular compact.

The drawback I'm finding is a rental gun to test before dropping 500 dollars on one. I called at least ten ranges today and only one even knew what kind.d of gun I was talking about and none had one to rent. From the reviews I've read(especially the one in the previous post) I think its worth a gamble. But I think I'll probably go with the standard straight 8 sight rather than the quick sight.

Its always a bonus if you get to test a new gun before purchase. But in this case, if you get a chance to hold, manipulate and dry fire, I think you will be able tell if its a good fit for you. Maybe you can call Caracal USA and see if they have any range days coming up near you. Let us know what you decide.

I've seen them advertised.

If I were looking, I would consider it, but my concern is the availability of extra mags, holster, repair later on.

If something were "iffy", then I would pass.
