Buying my wife a gun. P250, MPC, G19
My wife recently went through a beginner training course and is hooked! She has shot a few of my guns over the years, but now has the bug and I couldn't be more excited (more range time :-) . During training she shot a Glock 19 and I was extremely surprised at how well she was shooting it.

Im going to buy her a 9mm for Christmas and have narrowed it down to a few guns. I know she liked the G19 but I don't really like that it doesn't have a traditional safety. So its was hoping to get some insight on the guns and what you think I should go with.

I'm deciding between the Sig P250, S&W M&P, and the Glock 19. They seem to be around the same money's with the SIG being the cheapest.

Thanks for the help

I would recommend getting her the one she wants. Just make sure she keeps the booger picker clear of the trigger.

I have a P250 (in 40sw) and it shoots well but it has a long but easy trigger. It is its only safety feature so you may want to consider that.

Definitely let your wife pick out her handgun.

Yeah I keep thinking I'm going to surprise her with it, but I probably need to get her involved

Buy here a gift certificate for a handgun at the local gun shop.

If I may add complexity to your quandry. I would also look long and hard at the Ruger SR9. It has the trigger safety like the Glock but also a traditional safety on the side for added piece of mind... I have had one for a little over 2 years and the only failure we ever saw was a new shooter limp wristing the pistol made it hang up on an empty twice. I have fed it all types of ammo from the cheapest dirtiest to some hot loads and it has performed admirably. My wife got out and shot with us for the first time a few months ago and she handled a G19 4th gen, XD45, my SR9, and a handful or rifles and rimfires and she said the SR9 felt best in her hands. The big bonus is that you should be able to find the SR9 for about the same price as the Sig P250.

If you don't buy your wife's shoes, don't buy her her first handgun. That is unless she has already said "I want a ________ for Christmas."

You should let the wife pick the gun that fits her best. I bought a P250C a few months ago, ran 2 mags through it and sold it. The DAO trigger pull was ridiculously long. I bought a CZ 75 P-07 and could not have been happier as the trigger pull on DA was about 2/3ds of what the P250 had been and very smooth and the SA pull, except for the take up, reminded me of my 1911A1, very, very smooth and about 5 lbs.

But all that aside, let the wife choose 2 or 3 SHE likes grip wise.

I too am considering buying my wife a gun for Christmas. She has shot mine a few times and likes them. Would I get in trouble if I give her one of mine (one i know she likes) and buy myself a new one. Lol!
