Personally I don't have any problems with FMJ as a defense round, if, and it's a big IF, you can put two-three rounds into the target as fast as you can say "bang-bang-bang". It may sound silly, but it will work. Two in the heart and one in the head, or zip 'em up, either will work. The hollow points give you a little bigger margin for victory, but speed and shot placement will usually serve you best.
All that said, my carry ammo is Gold Dot's.
Have to agree, at close quarters a double/triple tap to the chest from a FMJ round will get the job done. Like Gorknoids, however, I prefer the Hornady Critical Defense polymer filled round, especially in cold weather regions like here in the Northeast. Don't let the NJ police know about that though.

Ninja,

The the fedral rounds you have chosen are a great choice. IF they work for you, run with them. I have a taurus PT 99AF, PT111, and a keltec pf9.

The Federal rounds are goods rounds and will serve you well

Beretta M92FS

I may go with Hydra-Shok, out of all the ammo, it seems like the best choice

I have 2 Taurus 9mms. A PT99 AF and a PT111 pro. Use either 147gr federal hydra shok or remington 147gr golden saber.

I got a Ruger P95,but I don't know what ammo is best either,I got the Federal Hydra-shok soon after I got the gun and haven't got more ammo yet.If I had a need for more ammo I would be scratching a mark into my pistol grip

Any of the premium hp bullets will work as long as they run reliable in YOUR gun. It's vitally important to make SURE your gun don't fail to feed or otherwise malfunction with your defense ammo. The only way you'll find out is by shooting some of this expensive ammo in your intended carry/defense gun. There's NO WAY I'd carry FMJ ammo for defense due to the over-penetration factor-especially in 9mm.
