I have owned a lot of handguns, out of those 2 types stand out.
A well made and maintained 1911.
And H&K usp's, they are very accurate and can be carried DA/SA, or cocked and locked.

I've found my new to me Ruger sr9c to be accurate, enjoyable to shoot, and easy to conceal.

Best handgun overall for me, for the longest time

I wished Beretta would make an offering like the INOX 92FS

in .45ACP.

Then I found a SS- S&W 645. Problem solved...

I have found that the most reliable gun for accuracy is one that has a long barrel. For example, take the M&P or Glock 9mm, .40 and .45 that have a 4.25 inch barrel. All three of these guns are great for accuracy, however the 9mm will have a bit less recoil than the .40 or .45 cal. I believe the .40 cal have two size grain ammo, being the 165 and 180 so expect a tad bit more recoil on these two calibers.

anything expensive that is a historically tested battle gun. Beretta 92fs, 1911, 1911AI, CZ75, HK USP,
or just " let yourself go " and get a glock. : D
: D you won't find anything as reliable as a glock in that price range : p
accuracy doesn't even enter into the average gunfight. ... if you can put 10 in a 3" radius at 25 paces, that's good enough.

The best pistol ever made is the '' bureau model " springfield 1911, imho.

I ride my big motorcycle during the summer months and I like to wear my 9mm Taurus in a paddle holster. It is small framed, light and it conceals nicely under my riding jacket. When I am not riding my motorcycle this gun fits nicely in the glove box of the SUV. Before I leave the truck I will slide the paddle down between my frame and my jeans. This size gun has a good feel to it and I am confident that it will do the job in self protection. I use Hornady Critical Defense hollow point ammo.

When I am out in the woods, hunting or hiking I carry a .40 Cal M&P full size as it has the stopping power for larger animals that might attack me or in situations where I am confronted by a perpetrator. It is very accurate as it has a 4.25 inch barrel and the load is 165 grain Hornady C/D ammo. I also like the idea that the magazine is 15 shot, 1 in the pipe.

Both these guns I am fairly proficient and feel that I would be able to use them in a self protection situation. I have listed a few guns that one might check out for themselves. Both are not expensive, but very reliable, easy to clean.

Default whoops wrong post

glock makes a competition model...the g35 which is really nice but as all the other people said, it really depends on many things. Also, XDm's are pretty accurate as well. The size of your hand and the way you hold the gun can depend on how well you shoot it. I can shoot some guns really well and others not so well because of how it fits in my hand and how the sight picture is.
