Maybe the new Taurus/Beretta clones have improved but the one I bought 5 years ago was a major piece of junk. It went back 3 times and they would not or could not fix it. I dont think they test fired it or they would have replaced it. I sold it at a major loss to someone who knew it was a problem. I bought 4 Taurus guns and two were junk. At 50% I will not buy another one and I dont own one now.
I had an early Sigma 40 and it was not a bad pistol. The trigger was not great but was not that hard to have fixed. I gave it to my son.
My wife and I each have Ruger SR9C's. After she let me shoot hers, I bought one for myself.

I got my Taurus a few months ago and have 2000 through it with only 1 failure to feed polished my ramp. Haven't been to the range lately to test. Saving up for a new rifle.

I've been happy with my Taurus guns. Have the pt111 millennium pro, and the 605. I'm very happy with both. The pt111 hasn't jammed once in the past few hundred rounds. I have a s&w sd40ve coming in the mail this week. Will let you know how that is.

I don't see how you can go wrong with the 13 rd Bersa 9 mm ultra compact Pro pistol for under $400

I can't wait to get my Taurus to the range. Dang. There really are a lot of really nice pistols for under $400. I got a CZ75B for $450...

Nothing wrong with a Sigma, but for some reason, whenever I google the Sigma and look at pics, several of them that have Ka-Boomed come up...

My s&w sd40ve came in yesterday. For $306 at cheaper than dirt, I'm very surprised at the quality. A good bit higher than I expected. The cheapest part of this gun is definitely the sights though. Shot it a bit, liked it. Sits well in the hand

Any police trade-in would be a good gun in that price range. These guns were often carried a lot and shot a little. I haven't been on the J&G website lately, but they used to have a lot of ex-cop guns. One of the Eastern European guns, PA-63, Makarov, CZ etc. would be a good gun. I know this is the auto forum, but don't overlook trade-in revolvers either.
