Best duty .40

Alright I am a college student majoring in criminal justice. Thru my school and a sea side PD I will be working as a seasonal police officer while also serving as my internship.

The sidearms that the PD issues are revolvers, since were in the 21st century and i am not a fan of six shooters, I want to pick up a semi as a duty pistol. I have a s&w sd9 already but if I am goin to trust my life to my sidearm I might want to invest in a higher quality pistol.

I've been looking around and have considered the m&p 40, glock 23, xd40 and a Sig 226. Which is the best for the price or what other pistols do you recommend? All input would be much appreciated

We carry the glock 22 with tlr-1 weapon light. I would look at this as your duty weapon. Since there's no reason to conceal a duty weapon why not have the extra rounds and carry the 22 instead of the 23. Also glock to me is one of the most reliable handguns I have ever shot. The only thing that I have had happen was recently the ejector broke and was causing malfunctions. Got it replaced and no problems since then. Also if you are LE certified you may be able to get a good deal from glock if you call them.

bige, you do realize that the olde 6 shooter revolver is the most reliable gun on the market. I understand you would want a modern day semi but a revolver has a less likely chance of ever malfunctioning, not saying it can't happen but it is just less likely to compared to a semi.

Now, back to your original question. Glock is probably the most widely carried firearm by the police units. However, some do carry the Sig P226, which is a beast of a gun if you have the money.

I would suggest you go shoot all the guns you mentioned, S&W, Xdm, Glock, SIg and see which one fits your hand and shoots the best for you. However, if I was going to list the guns based upon my preference it would be: 1. Sig P226, Xdm, Glock, then S&W. But hey that is just what I like based upon my experience which each.

Good luck & Keep us posted

I've carried a Glock 17, SIG 226 and Beretta 92. They're all available in .40 cal variations..

I can't say a bad work about any of the three.
