Default Beretta PX4 Storm Full Size vs. Springfield XDM(.40 S&W)

I'm new to the forum and can't decide on which sidearm is a better choice. I am very well acquainted with firearms and just flat out can't decide which one is better. Someone gimme some help! I'm looking to use it as a daily carry weapon. Also, which caliber is better between .40 S&W and the 9mm? I've always leaned towards the .40 S&W solely because of the increased muzzle velocity with heavier bullets, but hearing other people's opinions always helps. Thanks in advance.

It really comes down to your personal preference. The 9mm will have less recoil and more ammo, but the 40 will have a larger bullet. But there are other things to consider. The beretta has a DA/SA trigger and while the XDm is technically SA it appears and feels like a DAO. Some people have trouble transitioning from DA to SA and prefer the trigger to be the same all the time. I am one of those people and for that reason alone I lean toward the XDm.

Both are fine pistols, I would suggest finding a range that rents and shoot both to find what one fits you best. I like the 9mm better than the .40 and like the .45 even more.

Swing by the new members thread and tell us a bit about yourself, you will get more responses after folks know a little about you.

First of all, I prefer the 9mm. Its cheaper and in my opinion just as effective with self-defense.

Secondly I like both the Px4 and the XDM. I think the XDM is more reliable and feels more comfortable. The Px4 just looks wicked sweet.

I have a friend who just bought a p4 compact in the 40 s&w and he loves it. He has been carrying for over 20 + years. He has carried everything from revolvers to semi auto's from .22 to 45 acp from full frame to subcompact. He was really impressed with the p4 and how well it shot. I know him well and trust his judgement. I personally believe if you can handle the 40 s&w to go with it for the stopping power it offers over the 9mm.

What swayed you so strongly towards the PX4? I personally went with the XDM 9mm Compact but was considering strongly the PX4, in the end it came down to the no manual safety but the extra grip safety on the XDM, also I wasn't able to shoot the PX4 and on fondling alone did not feel better than the XDM. I am not considering a second handgun and am looking that the PX4 again.

I owned a PX4 in .40 and it was a great gun. Reliability was superb and fit and finish were excellent. After about 200 rounds, the trigger got noticeably smoother and it was a joy to shoot. Not being a fan of polymer pistols, I ended up selling it to fund another 1911. But for the year or so I had the gun, it was a good one. Wouldn't have any problem recommending it to someone else.

I have 2 guns. 1 is my EDC PX4 sub compact in 9mm. It is such an awesome lil gun. my other is the newer PX4 full size model C or constant action, also in 9mm. This model was first made for L.E. consideration then released to the public. Best trigger ever. DAO.

You gotta go Beretta
