Default Bathroom Shooting Penalized

Maybe 8 days in a firearm refresher course is suitable?

According to unnamed wire-service reports on 2/28/08, "A sheriff's deputy who accidentally fired his handgun in a courthouse restroom in Fargo, N.D., has been suspended for eight days without pay. Authorities said the deputy also will receive a written reprimand. Police said the deputy had hung the gun by its trigger guard, and the weapon caught on the hook and discharged into the ceiling when he went to retrieve it."

I would say that 8 days suspension is too lenient. Send him packing (pun intended). There is no place for a negligent discharge in the profession, a guy that carries all day every day.

I agree. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you are not supposed to hang a gun by the trigger guard. I mean, that would be the same as using a cannons touch hole for an ashtray!
