I think I'd want to compare it to another one in hand it's really hard to tell with pics on web, some look like they may have a ring bit can't tell even with my magnifying software.

That barrel just looks really sloppy to me. I would go back and compare to another one.

i got an email from benelli today, they said it was normal. thats an insert that goes in the 9 and 40 slides. no insert in the 45, that tell me that they use one slide for all guns and put in inserts in hole of the 9 and 40. benelli said they have never had any thing to go wrong with the insert in the years they have made the cougar. i have a chance to trade this to a taurus 66 that was made in the 90's and is in 95%condition with a low round count, i'm a thinking on it. thanks

I would keep it! Its under warranty and they generally get solid reviews. Its not the cleanest workmanship from the front but Im sure its in no way going to effect performance. I doubt the bad guy you point it at will care!!

Old Fart, I have a Stoeger Cougar, and it doesn't have that problem. It looks like it is damaged. I'd take it back to the store and see if the dealer thinks it should be replaced. It looks like the face of the slide either has had a piece knocked off or it had a defective slide installed at the factory. The reason the barrel is cocked to the side is the lack of supporting metal on the right side of the bushing area.

Mine is .40 S&W. I don't have a way to do pictures, but where the one in the OP's picture looks like it has the lower right (left in the picture) side of the face of the slide bevelled instead of flat like the other side, mine is flat all the way across.
It looks like it may have been ground off, maybe because of a crack that they tried to get rid of.
And it looks like that is letting the muzzle of the barrel hang to the lower right (that is the right side of the gun, which is on the left side of the picture).
