Anyone Have A Beretta 96?

Ive been really craving a "first gun" and I have been looking through a lot of handguns and Im thinking about the 92FS, but I like .40s better than 9mm. This July, the new 96A1 is coming out and it looks really nice. I was wondering if anyone here has a 96 and what they think of it and what you guys think of the new 96A1.

I have a 96, and think it's a great fun. Rock solid, like the 92.

Hell yeah man. I've heard nothing but good things about the 96s. Have you heard about the new model? 96A1

I had one and while I liked it aesthetically I never fell in love with it. Accuracy was OK, and it was reliable. However, it was way too bulky for its capacity. I can get 10 rounds of .40 in a compact pistol. In a big full size gun, I want 15 rounds (yeah, I probably won't need it, but I see it a trade off for bulk).

The new 96A1 holds a couple more rounds (12), I'm not sure I like the other "improvements" though (rounded guard, rail). I do really like the dove tail front sight, I wasn't happy with the factory sights on my 96 and replacing them would have been a pain in the ass.

i got to try a borrowed 96d centurion and like it a lot too...;)

enough so to buy one i found on GB that was stamped "Minnesota State Patrol":D got a good deal too.

has a solid, comfortable feel, and it shot real accurate for me...

Hrmm..I guess it depends on the shooter lol. Im only 17 so its a little hard for me to borrow one or rent one or something. I really want to try a 96. The Minnesota SP uses the 96? Do other PDs use them?

dont know where or who else they've been issued to, but mine is DAO -double action only which is different than the new ones, the new ones are in single action and i think they're a lil easier to shoot.

Agreed. Tried a friend's 92 at the range a while back, it's bulk would be my biggest complaint. It was difficult to get my hand around and held surprising few rounds. The grip on the gun seemed almost as large as an XD .45, and that is just too big by me (and I don't have small hands).

Make sure you try several pistols before you set your mind on any first purchase. Of course considering you're 17, you've got plenty of time to go window shopping. ;)
