Any .40S&W ammo recommendations for self defense?
I just bought a .40 S&W Baby Eagle. I've not had a .40 since I sold my last Glock in 1999. Any recommendation for self defense ammunition? I probably won't try to carry this weapon, but want to fit it out with a laser/light for my bedside pistol.

I have not carried .40 S&W in a long time, but this round is currently popular.

As is this one.
RA40B Ranger Bonded 180gr 40 cal jhp
I carry the Rangers in my 1911 and have never had a problem with them.

Check Federal HST and Winchester Ranger SXT. These are what I use.

Some firearms are a little picky on eating some defense specialty loads. Make sure it works in your handgun before relying on it for self defense.

Whatever runs well in your gun. 40sw is a good defense round, be it in 135, 155, or 180gr...they all have their merits.
I've gone with Winchester Rangers as my staple HP in all calibers. But I don't see anything not to like about Gold Dots, HydraShoks, Golden Sabres, or just about anything from Hornady, Corbon, or Black Hills.
For "budget rounds" I've read the Winchester White Box JHPs tend to test really well.

I load all my handguns with Gold Dots mainly because I have a good bit of this type of ammo and it has proven to be a good round. Most all the premium defense rounds in 40 cal will do what they are designed to do. Check out Evan Marshall - Handgun Stopping Power. This is Evan Marshall's site and they test many brands of bullets. Corbon DPX seems to the choice of many who frequent this site..

What he said. I use either CorBon 135gr JHP or Remington Golden Saber 165gr JHP, but Speer Gold Dot, Hornaday, or Winchester and others all have good loads.
