Default 9mm Win Mag

I'm not sure if this is the right section or not, but it's a pistol caliber.

I was flipping through a pamphlet from Winchester, most likely came with a gun my grandfather bought, that was from 1980. I was looking at a chart of centerfire pistol ammo they had out at the time and saw 9mm Win Mag on the list. I was curious if that was just another name for 9x23 Winchester or not? Also, why you don't really hear much about that round?

I believe it was designed for the Widley pistol and was a 9X29 straight wall case.

It was a caliber designed for a firearm that had a short life and no other company picked it up.

Kind of like the .45 Win Mag.

Yep- the 9mm magnum and .45 Magnum were for the (I think) Wildey, a BIG auto pistol. I have one round of 45 magnum, NO rounds of 9mm magnum. Was very scarce, and there was debate if it was even going to BE made.

Thanks for the info. I'd never heard of a Wildey chambered in 9mm Win Mag.

Is it Wildey or Widley?
Most replies are probably right, but the spelling can't be all right.
