I shot a friends P95 last week and I was very impressed with it. Under 400 out the door with a couple boxes of ammo and it shot very well for the money. Fed JHP without a problem which is important for self defense.

You can get a new Taurus 24/7 Pro pistol for that price. They are great guns, especially for the money (except the .45 version which has magazine issues). I really liked the way they felt in my hand (better than the PT92 I ended up buying, actually).

I'd get one of the Yugo M-57 Toks from SOG. They cost $229.95, with shipping and transfer you'd be at $275 or so. Then go to AIM and buy a 1224 round tin of Romanian 7.62x25 ammo for $120.
It is not a cheap gun by any means. It is a very strong durable pistol. The 7.62x25 round is a screamer, it will penetrate Kevlar helmets and Level 2a vests.

Default $400 ?

I would use the $400 as a downpayment on a Kimber 9mm Ultra Carry II
