Well, technically the problem became the ammo. The G22/G23 were designed to work with the 980+/- FPS 180gr .40SW. That ammo is no problem.

All of the problems I've heard about have been with the wazoo hot 135gr-155gr loads, or reloads. Similar problems have occurred with plenty of 1911s and light, hot loads. That was why the ramped/supported barrels came into vogue with 1911s.
