if you shoot an apple or an orange fast enough out of a pvc pipe im sure either would lethal so an apple/orange comparason is moot...

Do our veterans believe the 9mm FMJ is a "useless" round?

According to the test data I've seen, the 9mm FMJ penetrates 24 inches of gelatin. The .380 FMJ penetrates 17 inches of gelatin. Either one can drill a .354-diameter hole all the way through a man.

According to Fackler and the IWBA, that makes them pretty much equal.

If you prefer the Marshall & Sanow approach, the 9mm FMJ is a 67% reliable "stopper", and the .380 FMJ is a 60% reliable "stopper".

If you want a heavier gun with a more powerful cartridge, go for it..... but I wouldn't call the .380 "useless", even with FMJ bullets.
