Anything is better than nothing. If it is all you have practice a lot. If you have something bigger I would use that instead. But again it beats a sharp stick.

I recently read this study on An Alternate Look at Handgun Stopping Power.

The 25 didn't do as well as the 22... but I would think shot placement is key.

Whenever you read that the .22 is more effective, check the barrel length on the test guns.

Certainly a .22 from a 6 inch barrel will outperform a .25 from a 1.5 inch barrel.

But a .22 from a 1.5 inch barrel is less effective.

However most military/law enforcement prefer a .25 because it's a centerfire, and any centerfire is more reliable than a rimfire.

The only answer is yes.

Is it the best choice? No
Would I look down on you if the 25 was your choice? No
I feel this is the best answer.

Any particular reason for the .25?

One factor that hasn't come up. 95 percent of the population will look at your hand and see GUN.

Doesn't matter if it's a .25 Beretta or a .50 Desert Eagle. All they see is GUN!

That, I believe, is why a drawn gun is not fired 95 percent of the time.

According to Wiji Answers a .22 is the handgun most commonly used murder weapon. Second is the .38 Special.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_most_common_murder_weapon_used

Naturally a .45 will be better than a .22 but a hand grenade will be better than a .45 and a necular bomb will be better than a grenade.

Put about 15 rounds in a sock and you have a pretty effective club.

Seriously, as already said, something is better than nothing. .25 ACP gets a bad rap from the prevelance of cheap Sat Night Specials that were chambered for it. The problem was more with the guns and the 2" barrels than the round itself. Would it be my choice, no but if its all you have then go for it. Every caliber can be lethal, shot placement is just more critical with lower mass and energy rounds.
