Default 1st Handgun

I went to my favorite LGS this morning to look at pistols with my mind set on the XD9 sub compact.
I have been shopping around for a while and really liked the way it fit(with an extended mag). Some of my friends have had different model springfields over the years and had nothing bad to say and the reviews of the XD series have been positive.

Just to be sure I had just about every pistol in the case out and in my hand and every one just didn't feel right for some reason or another UNTILL,
from the lower shelf is pulled a Para Ordnance P-14 in 40 S&W.

I picked it up and the fit was perfect, balance, fit and finish very little wear.
The tag said $479.95 +tax but they are having a 10% off sale so it went down to $431.95 + tax.I say sold and go to the front counter to put my deposit down and the guy at the register scratches out the tax and total ($466.50) and says I'll take care of that for you,$250.00 down and your balance is $181.95,It went from $479.95 +tax to $431.95 out the door!
I hope all I read on these is right,I had wanted one but they seemed just out of my price range.
I won't know untill about May or June when my permit comes back,I start my CCW class tomorrow and you have to have a pistol to put on your permit to apply.

Sounds like you got a P16 (the P14 is .45 ACP). I have a P16 Signature and it's a great shooter. I'm not a huge fan of double-stack 1911 pattern guns but Para does build a nice one...

I'm not familiar with them, but Para makes a good pistol from what I can tell. Enjoy that rascal.

I did a little research (on the 1911 forums) and Para did indeed make a few P14s in .40 S&W. I'd do some searching for mags as they may be very hard to find - may have to buy from Para...
