I've shot 6 different 1911s. Kimber, RRA and Sigs.
2 of those 6 (one sig and one Kimber) had a malfunction. And I only shot about 30 rounds through each
Both were FTEs. You can blame it on the shooter (me) but I never have problems with ANY other pistols.
From the people I know that have 1911s, they can't go more than 200 (mayyyyybe 300) rounds without sommmme type of malfunction.
While with other guns, I've gone thousands of rounds without ONE malfunction.
One of my Glocks has over 3k rounds through it with ZERO malfunctions and the other has had 3 malfunctions with well over 5k rounds through it.
I've seen this success with plenty other pistols, but I've never seen that type of reliability with a 1911.
I put over 1K rounds through a PT1911 without ever cleaning it. Well..Truth be told I stopped counting after 800 rounds and it went another 8 weeks. And then I put a bore snake though it and shot it another month. Not one failure. I did it because people kept saying it was a POS Taurus and it outlasted a few Kimbers and other "hi-dollar" pistols. The last pistol to give me trouble on a regular basis was a G19. It seemed to not want ot shoot well unless it was about oiled really well. Stove piped after 150 rounds unless it was oiled again.
My EDC is a Para Ord LTC. That gun gets cleaned a more because I carry it. But I have put untold thousands of rounds though it over the last 5-6 years and it has never once failed. It's why it's a EDC piece. Because it has 100% trust from me. I shoot at home so it's not uncommon for me to get a wild hair and just step out and bust a few boxes of ammo off on a whim or because nothing is on TV or I just watched a cool western
What I'm getting at is I'm more likely to find a problem with a pistol sooner than some because I shoot a lot. I can go through a couple/few hundred rounds of ammo in a week easy.
I'll agree with you that Kimber does not make a pistol for the cost that I want. I've had a couple and didn't like them. Never owned a Sig 1911 but have shot a few, they seem OK but not my first choice for a 1911 pistol.
I'll ask what the pistols that failed where using for lube? Lots of people seems to went to use some grease crap like a grease that will hold on to any dirt it sees. I have found that somewtinhg liek a 30-40 weight motor oil work better.
