Default 1911 vs ruger kp345

Im a huge fan of the 1911 style 45. Yet I have been drawn in by the looks and feel of the KP345. Has anyone shot both? Ive shot a 1911 a little while ago and loved it, although the ruger seems just as rugged and maybe a little more reliable with hollow points. How about some pros and cons, Im leaving an awful lot out.

Ruger semi's have always seemed kind of blocky to me. However, I've heard good things about their reliability.

However, I favor the 1911.

ive shot more than a few rugers and none of them come close to a 1911 in reliabilty quality or feel. havent seen a kp345 yet but the pics look like a slightly modified version of their poly frame stuff. ive never handled a ruger centerfire semi-auto that felt balanced.

if YOU like the feel of it thats all that matters when it comes to ergonomics.

It sure looks a lot like their SR line of pistols, which I don't have any experience with. But every Ruger I own is bomb-proof reliable. If the 345 feels good in your hand, that's a big plus in my book. Is there any way you can shoot one before you decide?

I had a Ruger SR9c and it was a good pistol, but I hated the loaded chamber indicator.

I dont know anyone know who owns one and my local range doesnt rent them. My only chance would be to find one there used and ask nicely. Although Ive heard nothin but good things. I own a ruger p95 9mm and it is the shiznit.

About the only real similarity between the 2 guns is the caliber. Ruger makes a solid gun but you really can't compare it to a 1911 as they are completely different in form & function. No gun with a hinged trigger will ever feel like a 1911...

The quintessential apple and orange comparison.

Both guns have their place but as Dave said, "No gun with a hinged trigger will ever feel like a 1911...".

Well put Dave.

A correctly set 1911 trigger has no equal. (A few S&W wheelguns I've shot in SA do come close, but NOT in DA.)
