1911 or glock

so for my fist ccw gun i was first interested in the glock 23 but now im leaning towards a 1911. but heres my dilema...the most i can spend is $600 so i dont know of any good 1911 for that price, and also i need a 1911 in a size that i can conceal. im 6 foot tall 180 lbs so anyone have any suggestions??

See if you can find a used Commander size 1911. Or else save up a bit more and buy a used one.

BTW, I'm 5'6' 150 and conceal a full size 1911 with an in the waistband holster. However I just bought a Kimber Ultra Carry II 3" 1911 because it's easier to conceal and much lighter.

Hey austin, I own both glocks and 1911 guns. I have owned cheaper and real pricey 1911's. I own a glock 23 and conceal carry it every so often. I prefer a 1911. I shoot it very well and love the feel of an all steel gun. With $600 to spend its a toss up. The glock is a no frills point and shoot gun. It simply works. The 1911 on the other hand is an excellent gun. With that said the 1911 requires more maintenance. It needs to be cleaned more ofter and in detail. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. have you held/shot either of these guns? If not, see if you can rent them before you make a purchase.
If this is your first and primary gun, I would reccomend a glock for simplicity.
If its not your first or primary gun get the 1911 all the way. I am a firm believer if you only need 1 handgun, a 1911 is a wise choice. I would say get a remmington or a rock river to fit your budget. As you get more money you can buy upgrades and make your 1911 personal to you. Hope this helps. Good luck with your purchase.

I'm a 1911 guy, so my vote obviously goes for the 1911. I recommend however, that you check out some local shops' inventory and see what fits the bill. Also like Alpha1Victor said try to see if you can rent one or both at a local range if they have either one.

Like the above poster I own both. For your first purchase and since you have a budget is go with a glock g19. Just my opinion but is also recommend you go to the range and test several of each before making a purchase.

An argument for the ages

I would highly suggest renting/shooting both first. I own both and prefer the glock all day long. Not to dog the 1911 because it is a fine firearm, I just have big hands and the slim grip does not fit me well. I shoot my glocks much more accurately. Do your homework and SHOOT them both so it's an informed decision you make.

I carry a RIA 1911 Officer size (at work on private property, stupid Illinois) and have owned a Glock as well. I shoot the 1911 better, I like how it conceals and fit my hand so that's why a prefer it. However I can't really say anything bad about a Glock. Not to beat a dead horse, but shoot both and see what works for you better.
