I think they're ok, but personally I'd save and get a better one.

I own a rock armory 1911 45 and had a few jams during the first couple hundred rounds I ran through it but now it never jams even when I use the cheap gi magazines I pick up at the gun shows. I would not want to compete with my rock but I am still happy that I bought it. On a good day I can shoot all my rounds into the black on a pistol target at 25 yards. Great gun to learn about the 1911 platform with if you mess it up you are not out a whole lot of money!

Most firearms are more accurate than the beginner shooter. The RIA is not my choice for USPSA, IDPA, or bullseye competitions, and the park finish is not correct for the SASS "Wild Bunch" competitions. What competitions are you looking to go into? For the price, the RIA is a decent shooting handgun. |
Save up a little more money and get a Springfield or a Remington.
Being in the gun business, I've handled many RIA's and their quality has never impressed me. |
I've got a Rock Island 1911-A1 tacital version. I've run about 500 rounds through it the first month and have not had a FTFeed or FTEject. I had one 25 yard group (indoor range) with all five touching, about 2 inches across, a little low and left, so I'd say it's fairly capable. More so because I'm a rifle shooter and no more than average (read that indifferent at best, all in the black is good enough for me) with any of my handguns. Based on what I've observed over the first month, it's maybe not going to be as durable as one of the higher end offerings, but, as with anything, you get what you pay for.

Some folks rave about them, some folks love them, some are almost cultlike about their "value for the money". I've had two, a 1911A1 and a 1911 Tactical. Both of them were pieces of sh!t. You may very well have a different experience, but that was mine.

Like any handgun, they can and will. Accuracy mostly depends on you. |
