Default Just a quick question im hoping to get answered

I'm looking Into buying a new pistol, a Springfield xdm40. My only concern being the mags, the new "safe act" says that mags with a capacity higher than 10 is illegal, the xdm40 comes with 16 round mags and I don't believe you can buy 10 round mags for them, so does that mean that I can't own mags for this pistol? Am I better off waiting to move out of state to get it? Any help is appreciated

The laws in NY were a big factor in deciding my first handgun. I wanted something full size with a 10 round mag to start off with before getting a conceal gun...but with the laws how they are, I'm just thinking of getting a compact .45 or something.

No use getting a 9mm that holds 15 if you can only have 7...

If you're buying from an in-state GS, I doubt that it is legal for him/her to sell you those 16 rnd. mags. Make the deal contingent upon the seller substituting 2-10 rnd. mags. Worth a try.

If you wish to modify current 16 round magazines, these will do so. However, most magazines that are high capacity AND IN THE STATE when the law passed are grandfathered in and fully legal to own. Buy them NOW before their gone! However, every gun maker, including Springfield, makes 10-round magazines to be able to comply with the socialist states.

As an aside, if I were limited, I would consider going to a smaller gun that is lighter to carry and easier to conceal, or step up to .40 or .45 where the round had more of a punch. The decision is ultimately yours, but I hoped this helped.

Check whether there is a CA compliant package. That will ship with 10 round mags.

I have contacted Springfield, and they informed me that for that model pistol the smallest mag they make is 12 round capacity. So needless to say, the search for my first pistol continues, like the looks of the ruger SR40c
