Horrible tragedy that occurred in my old neighborhood to a good man from my community.

Father of 4, devoutly religious, hard working family man, stabbed, shot in the head and robbed of $900 in his store. Anytime something horrific happens we as observers go into: "how could this have been prevented" mode. How could this have been prevented? What steps could have been taken to prevent this tragic loss of life?
One thing is for sure, NYC gun control laws sure didn't work!!!
IMO, education. Let business owners know that they have the option of owning a firearm, that they can be armed as well. Education; train business owners on how to address a threat like this, how to draw down and use their firearm to protect themselves.
Again, I am from this community, there are NOT a lot of people that believe in owning a firearm, even though in the bible, in Exodus, there is a passage that say that (and I paraphrase here) a threat to one's own life should be met with lethal force. This tenet of faith is clearly mimicked by the 2nd amendment. Yet cities like NYC make it so difficult to obtain a firearm legally that often times people it's not worth the effort....well it IS.
This man's life was probably taken by someone that knew him and his schedule, someone that knew when he made the rounds of picking up the rents from his tenants. Had he been a gun owner that could have been one other bit of information that the person or persons who did this would have known and perhaps they would have thought otherwise. At least he could have drawn his weapon and possibly protected himself, injured the perpetrator or prevented this completely.
His family was going to celebrate his 60th birthday, now they had to plan his funeral.
Very sad...
