Default Clarify NM CCW, please

It appears that when you apply for a CCW in NM, the State Police in Santa Fe do a NICS background check, and the local constabulary is not consulted. so it isn't a popularity contest, and an antigun LEO can't block you. is this correct?

The forms go to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety CCW unit, which is in Albuquerque, NM.

You required to submit the necessary forms and required documents.

If you have questions regarding CCW in New Mexico, please feel free to call Caliber's instructor, John Mallory. He can gladly help answer any questions.

New Mexico is a "shall issue" state meaning that if you fill out the forms correctly, complete the required training, and pass the NICS check - you cannot be barred from being issued a concealed carry permit.

All NM firearm laws are State laws and the local governments or police agencies have no influence on issuing a concealed carry permit.
