Well for one, it's typically 5-10 degrees cooler once you start getting closer to the ocean.

Hell no indeed, I have been waiting 2 months for my purchase permit. Even though one town over my sister got hers in less than 3 weeks...effing ponderous...
UPDATE:
I called the PD just now. I was politely informed that there is a huge backlog in background checks from Hurricane Sandy (that was in November BTW) and while they only got 10 applications in December (mine being one of them) they did however get close to 40 in January.
The Captain was out on vacation the week before last and was also off Friday as well. the gentleman also told me he didn't physically have my file which means that the file is with the captain as we speak, so that could be mean it's a matter of a few days.
I felt like after such a long and polite description of the reasoning why I'm waiting more than the requisite 30 days, I could wait a few more before making any sort of a stink. but it is frustrating to hear people one or two towns over receiving theirs well within the requisite 30 day period.

UPDATE:
Almost 2 months to the day, I finally got the call to pick up my permits. So I suppose the phone call probably did nothing, but I will think that it did, so it gives me a sense of accomplishment.

Believe it or not, I won the Beretta Nano in the FTF giveaway this past December, so I have been waiting for the permit to have it transferred to me. So permit 1 is for that Nano. Permit 2 is another story. I've been thinking about a full size M&P or a Stoeger Cougar, so one of those may be in the cards. But I have a month to mull it over as it's one handgun every 30 (or so) days.

Now I have a 3-4 day wait for a NICS check...lol. 
Obviously there are a lot of people purchasing firearms nationwide. Funny, I wasn't aware of anything like that...heck I would have heard SOMETHING if that was the case...
