Some extensive googling later....

This is what I have so far. I have yet to cross reference with other manufacturers.

Basically, I googled things like "Taurus guns problems" and "Taurus sucks" and started keeping track of the first 200-300 hits. This was easier than it sounds, because a lot of the hits weren't relevant. I broke it down to pre 1995 and post 1995, because this little project would take me 368741 years to complete if I tracked individual years. It is bad enough that individual complaint threads often have several different incidents included.

I tracked only those incidents where we KNEW the vintage of the gun, and had some idea if the problem had been resolved. I disregarded non-content complaints, and second-hand anecdotes. Basically, just saying "taurus sucks" does not constitute salient data. There isn't ton of data yet, but here are the numbers so far.

It would take a team of people MONTHS to assemble in-depth data. I realized late that I should have been tracking how often Taurus resolved teh problems to the customer's satisfaction, but it was too late to go back and compile that. Maybe this weekend. I will try to get comparable results from Ruger and S&W at some point this weekend as well.

1) That is a DAMN impressive show of information collection scrapper. Well done sir!

2) I think the break down is skewed because it's only been about 6, or at the most, 8 years since Taurus redid their production facility to include all CNC driven machines. That wouldn't affect customer service directly, but it would definitely help determine the production/mechanical counts in those graphs.

Really great work there though. If you take a look at those numbers, and compare them to AVERAGE sales figures for any gunmaker, that would speak volumes even for ONE year of sales....

OK

When I re-do this I will break it down to pre- and post 2000. I sorta just picked 1995 randomly.

Don't re do all that hard work on my account bro - I was just saying that being that far back doesn't reflect the change in production procedures. Your details so far are impressive...

My mother owned a Taurus PT92 for a long time. I put an estimated 15,000 rounds through it before she finally sold it off (she put around 2,000 rounds through it - she didn't like to shoot as much...lol).

That 9mm didn't give me hardly any problems besides a little jam up here and there.

I haven't tried any of their new products like the 24/7, but I feel that Taurus is a decent company. Not the best, but average.

I only own one Taurus, a 4510 Judge. So far it has been very reliable. I haven't shot it all that much, maybe 400 to 500 rounds. This is my wife's night-stand gun. People really don't realize how bad this pistol will mess up a BG. 5 shots of #4 will totally destroy its target.
