Actually this thread by stalkingbear was a personal opinion. If you read through the thread, you will see that he does fully endorse the PT 1911 for purchase and was happy with it's true performance.

Isn't this thread about bad experiences with Taurus in general, not just malfunctions of their firearms?

If not, sorry for adding. Sorry for posting a "duplicate", it was a brief search and I saw two different member IDs.

No, you are correct, but stalkingbear had no problems with the Taurus as a weapon. He wanted to tinker and he wanted something specific. In the second, or maybe the third, page I asked him what his impression of the weapon was and he endorsed it.

I did read over a bunch of thread titles that looked like owners liked their experience with Taurus. Maybe you should include that in your data to get some percentages, Scrapper.

That's what I'm doing. I'm trying to see if Taurus has a greater percentage of problems with customers then, say Ruger or S&W, and the degree to which it's higher.

So far, it looks like Taurus quality took a big leap in the early-to-mid nineties. THey apparently produced some real turds before then.

First- nice wedding picture.

Second- I am one of the unfortunate ones who has had some bad Taurus experiences. I purchased a new PT-99 (a 9mm Beretta 92 clone with adjustable sights) in the late 90's. At about a 3000 round count the locking block broke, locking the slide partially open. I contacted Taurus and they said to send in the broken part and they would replace it free under their warrant. Three months later I had not heard anything so I tried calling them, but I had trouble getting anyone to answer the phone. When someone finally answered he was helpful and told me they had shipped my part to the wrong state.

They finally shipped it to me and it was worked well except for the roll pin holding the adjustable sight in place. The pin kept walking out and the rear sight would fall off onto the ground while I was shooting ( this made my scores in the local IPSC matches much worse as I either had to look around on the ground for my sight or shoot without the rear sight on the pistol). Rather than deal with the Taurus customer service again I removed the old sight, filed a dovetail into the cut-out and installed an old HK-USP rear sight. It works great.

So while I do not hate Taurus I think their quality control and customer service could be better, and I have not bought another Taurus. Hope this helps.

best wishes- oldandslow

That's what I'm looking for.

Slow turnaround on warrantee repairs is a recurring theme.

If we get enough of these, I will compile a report and track incidents and trends (WOW...I am REALLY nerdy). I'll post the article here and at the other website I frequent (Bullshido.net). It could be good research.
the quest for knowledge is never a nerdy pursuit for this is where the wheat is seperated from the chaff. if only more people were so commited. to find someone who is a champion of a product that is willing to search for the bad along with the good is refreshing. keep up the good work.
